One of our most remote communities, Aurukun is approximately 2 hours’ drive from Weipa. Our community-based supports and specialist vehicle ensures clients have access to community facilities and surrounding country.

Melinda 'Hannah' Koongotema
Support Worker
Since joining our team around six months ago, Hannah has been enjoying supporting our clients in Aurukun, helping with cleaning and outings around her remote community.
She also recently supported one local client to travel to Brisbane, even though this was her first visit to the state capital also.
A member of the local Putch Clan, Hannah is proud to be a role model for the younger generations in her community and of how her role helps people in Aurukun.

Having lived in the Cape for a number of years, Nathan brings a strong connection to the Aurukun community and a passion for creating positive change. Recently stepping into the Team Leader role, you’ll often find Nathan out in community having a yarn and building relationships through culture and conversation.
He’s a true supporter for local voices leading the way and ensuring those delivering supports are well-resourced and empowered to do their best.
For Nathan, the most rewarding part of his work is helping others grow in skill, confidence and self-worth, and seeing that impact inspire the next generation to learn, lead and thrive.

Senior Program Coordinator
With more than a decade supporting Indigenous and remote communities throughout the top half of Australia, our EMG Inclusive Supports model stood out as a terrific opportunity to get involved in as soon as Liz saw it.
As a Torres Strait Islander woman, with links to both Erub and Badu Islands, she has grown her career around supporting and advocating for Australia’s vulnerable people in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland and the Torres Strait. She brings 13 years of experience in Aged Care, DV Support and Mental Health Services to our organisation. Previously, she also supported various disability organisations throughout Cape York and the Torres Strait, spending time in many of the remote communities we now support.
As our new Senior Program Coordinator for Aurukun, she is enjoying re-immersing herself in the community and finding her fit with the team and families there as they welcome her to the region. Liz has seen enough services delivered in community to know that a FIFO model does not work in very remote settings and is looking forward to helping to grow and develop our local Aurukun team, and with it the supports we deliver there.
She passionately believes that Indigenous people deserve equal access to services and supports and is committed to empowering the team to deliver even greater culturally-safe NDIS supports that allow our clients in Aurukun to thrive in their community.
